Dixie Sears Essentials returning to K-Mart roots.

The Sears Essentials store on Dixie Highway is holding a clearance sale in preparation of a "remodeling". The remodeling will once again turn the store into a K-Mart.

The store started as a K-Mart years ago, before being converted into the now-failed Sears Essentials.

A sign inside the store states the new K-Mart will be opening in November 2011 and will feature some of the same items currently being sold under the Sears name, including the popular Craftsman tools and Die-Hard lines of merchandise.

  1. now this is interesting.... i remember when Kmart was closing back in 2000 because of Sears buying them out...I wonder if the Kmart name is just more well known and Sears wasn't as much so now they are going back to Kmart so people will actually shop at their stores?

  2. I don't know what the strategy is. I do know that the 30% off deal is a sham. On most items, they raised prices, then took off 30%, making things either the same price as before the "sale" or slightly more expensive. I saw a shirt I bought in May on "sale". The price was higher during the "sale" yesterday than it was when I bought it in May. The baby stuff is a little cheaper, though the percentages off vary from 10% to 15%.

Whatever the reason, I hope the new retailer works out and we avoid a huge empty space on the highway.

Kmart went bankrupt in the late 1990's. When they emerged from bankruptcy, the company purchased Sears and tried to create these types of stores. I'm not sure if it worked anywhere else, either. I liked it though. They stocked better quality items than the traditional discount retailer.
