Sept. District 12 Dialogue With Tony Lindauer, PVA

September District 12 Dialogue Features Tony Lindauer, PVA
Event set for Tuesday Sept. 21st

Jefferson County’s Property Valuation Administrator, Tony Lindauer will be on hand as the featured guest for September’s District 12 Dialogue set for Tuesday, September 21st at 7:00pm.

“Many people may be aware that the PVA’s office determines the value of all property in Metro Louisville,” says Councilman Rick Blackwell (D-12). “They may not be aware of other programs the office provides to help homeowners”

The September District 12 Dialogue will get underway at St. Lawrence Church, 1925 Lewiston Drive.

“The goal of the District 12 Dialogues is to bring various departments of the local, state and federal government to residents so they can ask questions and learn more about how government works,” says Blackwell. “This is also a chance to let me know of any ideas or questions residents may have.”

Joining Lindauer at the meeting will be representatives from Louisville Metro Police, the Division of Licensing and Permits, Neighborhoods and MSD to answer questions about programs. A representative of Congressman John Yarmuth's office will also be in attendance.

For more information about the September’s District 12 Dialogue, contact Councilman Blackwell's office at 574-1112.

District 13 Health Expo

Welch sponsoring District 13 Health Expo for residents

In an effort to combat high rates of obesity, cancer and heart disease in District 13, Councilwoman Vicki Aubrey Welch is once again sponsoring an event that could save lives and help many live longer.

“Too often people will put off going to the doctor or take the time to see why it is they just don’t feel well,” says Welch. “The District 13 Health Expo is an opportunity to get free health information that may lead to the discovery of a health problem. More importantly, it’s doing something to take better care of yourself and your family.”

The District 13 Health Expo will get underway on Saturday, September 18th from 2:00pm to 6:00pm in the auditorium of the Fairdale Elementary School, 10104 Mitchell Hill Road.

Among the services offered: free health information, exhibits and demonstrations; blood pressure and Body Mass Index Testing and Blood Glucose testing. Flu Shots will be provided at $25 per person but for those who are Medicare Part B participants, the shots are free.

“This year, there is a special effort to make people more aware of the problem of undetected colon cancer,” says Welch. “Recently, the Metro Council’s Health and Human Needs Committee learned the problem of colon cancer is growing. As Chairwoman of that committee, I think every one needs to know early detection will go a long way in fighting that disease.”

A highlight of the Health Expo will be a giant walk through colon exhibit that shows the various stages of colon cancer. It is sponsored by the Colon Cancer Prevention Project.

More than 20 vendors ranging from the Louisville Public Health and Wellness Department to Norton Health Care will be on hand. The Health Expo will include important information about the services and programs of groups such as the Elderserve Inc.., Gilda’s Club, Family Health Center – Fairdale, the Lung Cancer Alliance and the Center for Woman & Families.

“The goal of the District 13 Health Expo is simple. We want to promote good health in a fun upbeat way and reach a significant audience who can benefit from this information,” says Welch. “The Fairdale Community Fair is a great event that brings a community together. The Health Expo is designed to keep the community healthy.

Boondoggle Is Now!

- Monday morning, September 13th, at 10:30am, Democratic candidate for Kentucky State Senate Marty Meyer will hold a Press Conference downtown in front of City Hall on Jefferson Street to announce his pledge to never take a single dime of tax payer money if he is called back to Frankfort in the event the legislature fails to create a budget. That's something that matters to me, and I think it matters to you. Meyer's opponent, career politician Dan Seum, has a race on his hands.

- The Louisville-Jefferson County Democratic Party is circulating an email claiming Republican mayoral candidate Hal Heiner "changes his opinion on the Bridges project depending on who he is talking to." The message goes on to say, "Is Hal incapable of making a stand..taking a position? Or is he just trying to tell people what they want to hear?"

I've been critical of Heiner in the past, even referring to him as Shallow Hal. But to this charge I would say, "At least Hal is capable of forming a real position based on the wants and needs of the community, and may be actually willing to engage people and learn enough about the issues to change his opinion to reflect the will of the voters." What do you think? As Democrat Greg Fischer flips and flops all over the place on card check legislation, privatizing metro government jobs and THE BRIDGES PROJECT, is this a credible attack?  Sound off in the comments section.

"GrassGate" Envelops District 25

The Kosair Shrine Circus isn't until February, but you can catch the dazzling act of Louisville's Main Clown just by checking your inbox.  Metro Councilman Doug Hawkins (R-25) sent out an email a few days ago in an attempt to churn up some manufactured outrage over unmowed grass along 3rd Street Road near his home.  Here is a picture that accompanied the email:

Hawkins claims this grass is a "visual obstruction". While unsightly, the grass does little more than hide railroad tracks that lie to the right, and in no way impede a motorists view of anything other than the trash that is being thrown from car windows.

Today, Hawkins croaks about an "update" to this very serious situation, and claims that because of "public outcry", the grass is now scheduled to be mowed on September 20th. It's a mayoral conspiracy!!  Expect more shenanigans from District 25's low-rent version of Bozo as election day draws near.

Thanks, Doug, for your vigilance in pursuing this injustice to mankind.  On second thought, you could have cut it yourself and not relied on "the government" to solve your problems.
