2010 VITA Volunteers Needed

Henderson puts out the call for 2010 VITA Volunteers
Program returned $1.5 million to Southwest Community in 2009

Last year, 1400 families in southwest Jefferson County were able to receive an estimated $1.5 million dollars in income tax returns because of a special group of volunteers. Now, the call is going out for volunteers in the 2010 Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program.

“The VITA program gets results for people who need the financial help,” says Councilman Bob Henderson (D-14). “I am proud of the volunteers who over these past few years have done so much good for families who otherwise would not receive the refunds they are entitled to.”

VITA is a program of the Louisville Asset Building Coalition. It is a free tax preparation program for low income families making less than $49,000 a year. No experience is necessary to become a volunteer. The LABC works with the IRS to provide easy training to be either a tax preparer or site support personnel.

“Volunteers are the key to this free service,” says Henderson. “You will be able to work a very flexible schedule and there are no minimum hours required if you decide to help us out.”

For more information about becoming a 2010 VITA Volunteer, contact Kathy Pullen at kj444@bellsouth.net. Be sure to write VITA in the subject line. Or you can call Councilman Henderson’s office at 574-1114.
