Rick Blackwell (D-12)

Metro Councilman Rick Blackwell (D-12) isn't really the kind of guy people get riled up about, unless you are some type of headline-chasing alarmist. The majority of people in his district seem to be comfortable with him, since Blackwell is one of the original members of the Metro Council when it was formed in 2003. He was re-elected in 2004. He was the first chairman of the Appropriations Committee, vice chairman and chairman of the Majority Caucus and council President in 2007. Is he doing something right? Ask his constituents.

Ed over at Louisville News and Politics has a post that lumps Blackwell in with other "rubber-stamps" on the Metro Council, and it is a sentiment that I do not totally disagree with. Check it HERE. Is Blackwell a loyalist and advocate for Mayor Abramson? I think he is a little bit, and I'm not crazy about it, either. But I like Rick. And the candidates that run against him are going to have to run on ideas, not fringe-issues. What benefit will come to citizens from a representative that continually stomps on the toes of all of his colleagues and the most powerful mayor in the history of Louisville? I think the district would be punished, just as the people in the 25th district are punished for having a blowhard as councilman.

Here is what I am saying: "If you want his job, tell us what you would do, in explicit detail and why you are the best choice." Stop all of the posturing and phony-ass claims of high moral character. Or at least 'Google' yourself before you decide to claim the moral high road.

Blackwell's entire voting record on every issue that has ever been before the Metro Council can be viewed HERE. Take a look, then vote accordingly.

  1. Tucker boy ... you are so poorly informed about issues.

To wit, your conclusion that District 25 residents are/have been punished for Hawkins actions.

You must be basing your assertion on the bomb-storage "the-fix-is-in" plan hustled by Abramson
(now really, what are the odds that only 1 piece out of over 1120 parcels of city-controlled land met all of these requirements? And those requirements were solely determined by the someone selected by Abramson? Horse crap!)

Southfields (in the EAST END!) was a perfectly fine bomb storage site, until Abramson tried to sneak a special deal to one of his developer buddies. Thanks to Chris Thieneman that plot was foiled and the city netted an additional $250,000. (The city then spent thousands more of your dollars suing Thieneman for "interference".
A judge quickly threw that suit out!)

But we still lost a perfectly fine police training & bomb storage facility. Blackwell and the other 3 DEMOCRAT Abramson ass-kissers from the south end voted to sell that perfect piece of city-owned land. And then Abramson screwed over them and all of us!

Here's what District 25 has received that NONE of the other South End Council Districts got:

$117 million in upscale single family developments by private developers. ZERO low income housing shit, unlike Districts 12, 13, 14, and 24 (which are all represented by Abramson's Rubber Stamps!).

District 12 has an Apartment community with 30+ CONVICTED SEX OFFENDERS! Blackwell assisted in the location of such a community in the 40216 zip code and District 12. This is District 12's REWARD for playing along with Abramson?????

    HAWKINS stands up to Abramson.
All the others cower at Abramson's feet, licking his boots.

Damn, Brian, you claim to be a union and south end advocate, yet you are so willing to pat Blackwell on his balding little head giving him compliments for being an Abramson boot-licker?

As long as you and all the other Abramson apologists keep people like Blackwell in office, all of the Southwest part of Jefferson County will be lucky to get anything of substance.

Oh, and all those things Blackwell supposedly "got" for District 12 residents ... That's his freaking JOB. That's what he is PAID to do!
    He works for US!

Has Blackwell attempted to IMPROVE education in District 12?
    Not his job right?
So it's OK for him to sit idly by while the children in District 12 lag behind the east end. And you and other apologists are OK with the school board (who has Larry Hujo, a big-time labor dude) putting the bulk of the blame on poor parenting by South End workers???
It can't possibly be poor teaching!!!!
    That's not politically correct!

    Geeeeez.

    You apologists are so spineless.

  2. Show me one thing that Dwight Witten has been in charge of. One. Show me a history of volunteering for his neighborhood. Show me a block watch he's formed or been a part of. Show me a neighborhood association he has taken part in. Show me one time where his peers have elected him leader of something. Show me his public outcry on any issue before 2008.

    Good night, and good luck.

  3. Brian -

You are NOT an agent for the changes we need in the southwest.

You're simply a voice of the status quo.

Your high-sounding words are simply ... EMPTY.

You operate on a double standard.
You are an apologist for the incumbents.
    You have no backbone.

Had you lived in colonial America times, you would have sided with the British. Thank God that there were more folks like me than you!

Brian, you ain't got what it takes to be an agent for change. You simply are too scared.

And you hide behind the Union label. Do you even know how many people DIED fighting for a better life while advocating for unionism?
And YOU are enjoying the fruits of their sacrifice. Yet, you want to keep those who oppress the working folks out in the southwest in power. You wimp!

  4. Again, Show me one thing that Dwight Witten has been in charge of. One. Show me a history of volunteering for his neighborhood. Show me a block watch he's formed or been a part of. Show me a neighborhood association he has taken part in. Show me one time where his peers have elected him leader of something. Show me his public outcry on any issue before 2008.

And don't lecture me about unions. You simply have no ground to stand on, as usual.

Unlike you, I take ownership of my comments. It is indeed unfortunate you don't have the balls to use your real name.

Good night, and good luck DW...
