Southwest Beautification - Project Idea #1

This is but one of the many places I have identified in Southwest Louisville that desperately needs investment. There are more, but we can start here.

This picture was taken just before election day. The property is in a high-profile location at the northeast corner of Stonestreet Road and Dixie Highway. The lot has looked this way for several years. I think it was a gas station at one time. It is a space commonly used by folks selling knockoff Reeboks, bootleg sunglasses or those damned "Velvet Elvis" pictures. Most of the time you can find a beat-up car for sale there.

What would you like to see here?

  1. I am concerned about an old cemetary located on Greenwood Road. The stone wall is torn down and some of the headstones have been moved around. This cemetery is directly across from the Post Office on Greenwood Road. I think we should repair the wall and fix the headstones. We should have respect for the dead and the PRP community should step up and fix it. I have tried to call metro call and got no help. I looked it up online and could find no name for the owner of the property to contact. Maybe you could help with this.

  2. I'll take a look at the situation. Thanks for pointing it out!

  3. Why not convince the city to simply tear down any remaining structure on the site above and leave it a pasture?

  4. I would love to see a new center for children. I grew up in the valley station area. And as a teenager there were not many positive places to go or things to do. I believe the community would benefit from a teen center or school age care center with engaging activities to prevent children from engaging in drugs. Also that would open up jobs for the people in that area. Thanks Brain for what you doing in my community! Jessie homeowner and proud KY resident.
